Cops: Man tried to rob Rockville Centre bank
Rockville Centre police have arrested a man they say tried to rob a Rockville Centre bank Friday afternoon.
Ralph Costa, III, 23, of upstate Hopewell Junction, N.Y., was arrested and charged with third-degree attempted robbery after he tried to rob a Chase Bank at 120 N. Village Ave., Nassau County police said in a news release.
At about 5:20 p.m., Costa walked into the bank and handed a teller a note demanding money, police said. He then told the employee to hurry up and that he had a gun. The nervous teller, however, had difficulty opening her drawer, police said. Costa then fled the bank without any money, according to the police.
There were eight employees and six customers in the bank at the time of the robbery, officials said. No injuries were reported.
A short time later, Rockville Centre police officers arrested Costa at the Rockville Centre train station.
Costa is scheduled to be arraigned Saturday in First District Court in Hempstead.
