A man armed with a handgun robbed a Valley Stream gas station Saturday night, Nassau County police said.

According to detectives, the man, armed with a silver handgun and wearing a black face mask and blue latex gloves, entered the Shell gas station at 100 W. Merrick Rd. shortly before 9 p.m., approached the clerk and demanded money.

Police said the victim handed the robber an undisclosed amount of cash and the suspect fled west on foot toward Hicks Street.

There were no customers at the station at the time and no injuries were reported, police said.

The suspect is described as 6 feet tall with a medium build. He was wearing a green hooded sweatshirt, dark sweatpants and black and white sneakers.

Police said anyone with information could call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-8477.
