A Selden woman was arrested Friday and charged with driving under the influence of drugs while her 4-year-old son was in the car, police said.
Debra Abramowitz, 44, of 4 Cleveland Ave., was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, criminal possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful possession of marijuana, as well as the Leandra Law felony charge of driving while intoxicated with a child in the vehicle.
Abramowitz was to be held overnight for arraignment Saturday in First District Court, Central Islip. Her son was released into the custody of relatives.
Plainclothes Suffolk officers at the Walgreens parking lot on Route 25 in Selden spoke with Nicole Ciravolo, 26, of 90 Aster Ave., St. James, about 4:12 p.m., police said. During the conversation, Ciravolo admitted to the officers that she was waiting there for someone who was coming to sell her Suboxone, police said.
Suboxone is prescribed by doctors for the treatment of opiate addiction.
A short time later, Abramowitz arrived there in her car with her son, police said, and was arrested after an investigation.
Ciravolo was charged with loitering, but released on bail pending a future court appearance.
