Two men approached another man on Rockaway Turnpike in North Lawrence late Monday night and attacked him after he said he didn't have any cash, Nassau County police said.

Police said the two inflicted contusions and abrasions to the victim's face.

The attempted robbery and attack took place at about 11 p.m., police said.

The two attackers fled west on Mott Avenue.

The victim was taken to St. John's Episcopal Hospital, South Shore, in Far Rockaway, where he was treated for a swollen eye and cuts, police said.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the attack to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
