Suffolk police detectives are investigating a robbery in North Lindenhurst Sunday night, during which a teenager confronted the suspect before a gunshot was fired, according to a police report.

A 17-year-old resident of 823 North Jefferson Ave. saw a man exiting his house with a metal lock box at approximately 7:35 p.m. and confronted him, police said. A struggle ensued and the gun-wielding suspect fired one shot into the ground. After the teen backed away, the suspect -- described as a six-foot male with a stocky build -- fled northbound on Jefferson Avenue toward Sunrise Highway, police said.

An undetermined amount of cash stolen from the box was recovered on Jefferson Avenue.

Police ask that anyone with information regarding this case call the First Squad at 631-854-8152 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
