Police charged Daniel Donoghue, 22, of 27 Seneca Trail, Ridge, with breaking into cars in the parking lot of Planet Fitness in Rocky Point. (April 13, 2010)

A surveillance operation set up after reports that someone was breaking into cars in the parking lot of a Rocky Point fitness center led police to arrest a Ridge man Monday night.

Daniel Donoghue, 22, of 27 Seneca Trail, was arrested at about 10 p.m. Monday and charged with petit larceny and criminal mischief, Suffolk County police said.

Police said officers saw Donoghue break into a car in the Rocky Point Planet Fitness parking lot on Route 25A. He was immediately arrested.

Donoghue was charged with six counts of petit larceny and three counts of criminal mischief, police said. He was held overnight and is scheduled for arraignment Tuesday in First District Court, Central Islip.
