Police are investigating a sexual assault in North Bellmore early Sunday morning.

A 25-year-old woman was walking west on Porter Street near Porter Place around 2 a.m. when she was hit in the head and knocked to the ground, Nassau County police said in a news release.

A man then carried her, police said, and put her in the back of a black sedan and sexually assaulted her. The woman hit the man and was able to get away and call police.

She was taken to a hospital to be treated, police said.

The man is described as 6 feet tall and in his 30s, with a very large build and a goatee. He was wearing bluejeans and a dark sweatshirt. The vehicle is a black four-door sedan and believed to be a newer model with a tan interior that was “extremely messy with garbage,” police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. Callers will remain anonymous.
