A Shirley man was arrested Wednesday and charged with impersonating a police officer after he stopped another motorist during a roadway dispute last month, police said.

Alexander Fabiano, 26, of 34 Alcolade Dr. E., was charged with second degree criminal impersonation and second degree unlawful imprisonment.

Fabiano used his car to block another vehicle near 1491 William Floyd Pkwy., in Shirley, about 10 p.m. on March 28, Suffolk police said. He then flashed an item toward the 51-year-old operator of the other car, identified himself as a police officer and ordered that man to place his hands on the car, police said.

After an investigation, Seventh Precinct officers arrested Fabiano Wednesday afternoon, police said. He is to be arraigned June 10 in First District Court, Central Islip.
