Cops shut Great Neck doctor's office

The Great Neck office of a Long Island doctor arrested as part of a joint federal and county crackdown on illegal painkiller trafficking was shut down Thursday.

Five patients waiting inside were asked to leave. Staff members told them the office was closing permanently.

Jacobson and another doctor arrested in the crackdown, William Conway, of Baldwin, plan to ask to be released on bail next week, their attorneys said Thursday.

Jacobson and Conway were ordered held without bail Wednesday after being arraigned on charges of illegal distribution of painkillers. The bail hearings will be held in federal court in Central Islip.

Federal Drug Enforcement Administration agents, meanwhile, are continuing to search for a suspected prescription drug trafficker. The missing suspect, Pablo Burgos, of Valley Stream -- along with his girlfriend Deserae Richardson -- was charged with operating an oxycodone ring that at times specialized in forging prescriptions for painkillers on prescription blanks stolen from doctors' offices.

Richardson was arraigned Wednesday and released on $120,000 bail.

The joint crackdown led to charges against 98 people on Long Island and in New York City.
