Cops: Some Mount Sinai graffiti incidents may be hate crimes

Suffolk County police hate crimes detectives are investigating multiple incidents of graffiti drawn on vehicles and houses in Mount Sinai, including at least two that may be hate crimes, authorities said Friday.

The incidents, discovered Friday morning, occurred on Casey Lane and Jesse Way, said Justin Meyers, assistant commissioner of the Suffolk County Police Department.

He said six incidents had been reported to police. Different types of graffiti were used, and, in at least two incidents, swastikas were drawn.

Meyers said a Jewish family lives at one of the homes, and that incident is being handled as first-degree aggravated harassment, which is considered a hate crime.

The rest of the incidents being handled as making graffiti, he said.
