Hewlett statue of Virgin Mary wrapped in tape, cops say

Nassau police are investigating a criminal tampering incident in Hewlett Saturday in which a statue of the Virgin Mary in the rear of a church was wrapped in red, green and black tape.

Fourth Squad detectives said they received a report that three unidentified male juveniles, two of whom were wearing yarmulkes, were observed carrying rolls of tape and running through the parking lot of St. Joseph’s Church at 1346 Broadway around noon Saturday.
