A Westbury man was arrested Sunday after crossing over three lanes of traffic while driving drunk with two of his children in his SUV, Nassau County police said.

Police charged Pedro Huerta Garcia, 45, with driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger 15 years old or younger — also known as Leandra’s Law, endangering the welfare of a child and multiple traffic violations.

Garcia was seen driving a 2002 Ford Explorer westbound on Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow and was unable to maintain the proper posted speed limit or stay in his lane, police said.

The officer who subsequently pulled Garcia over “observed the defendant to have indications of being intoxicated,” police said. Garcia had three passengers in the vehicle, including his two daughters, 8 and 15 years old, police said.

The children were released to their mother and the vehicle was impounded at the scene.

Garcia was held on bail of $2,000 bond or $1,000 cash at his arraignment Sunday in First District Court in Hempstead.
