A man walked into a tire store in Westbury Thursday night, held his hand in his waistband “giving the impression that he possessed a gun,” threw a pillowcase to the cashier and demanded he fill it with cash, Nassau County police said.

Then the robber fled.

Now police are searching for him — and hoping you can help with information.

The robbery took place at the Mavis Discount Tires store at 885 Old Country Road at about 8:35 p.m., police said.

It was then that the robber, described as 6-foot and in his early 20s, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a black ski mask that covered the lower portion of his face walked into the store and demanded cash.

Police said the robber was “soft-spoken.”

Despite the threat, police said no gun was displayed. Following the robbery the man fled onto Belmont Place toward Grand Boulevard.

Police are asking anyone with information contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential, police said.
