Cops: Woman charged after backing into Riverhead police car

A Riverhead woman was charged with driving while intoxicated and other offenses Saturday after authorities said she put her vehicle into reverse and struck a town police car when the officer inside attempted to pull her over.

There were no injuries.

Police said Ashley Marcus, 29, was taken into custody after backing into the Riverhead patrol car at about 4:20 p.m.

Marcus was driving on East Main Street when the officer signaled her to pull over. She then put the vehicle in reverse, hitting the patrol car, police said.

Marcus was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, aggravated unlicensed operation, and operating a vehicle without a court-ordered Interlock device.

The Interlock is a breathalyzer device that prevents a driver from starting a vehicle only after blowing into a mouthpiece and showing a blood-alcohol level that does not exceed a predetermined limit.

Stacey Hudson, also of Riverhead, who is the owner of the vehicle that Marcus drove, was issued a summons for facilitating aggravated unlicensed operation, police said.

Hudson’s age, as well as street addresses for her and Hudson, were not were immediately available.
