Woman walking dog in Merrick escapes after robbery try, cops say
A 35-year-old woman walking her small dog Thursday morning in Merrick managed to run away from two men who tried to rob her, police said.
At 6:30 a.m., the victim was walking on Bushwick Avenue at Schermerhorn Street when she encountered two men. She was forced to kneel by the first suspect after he placed his hands on her shoulders, Nassau County police said in a statement.
The man, who had covered his face with a bandanna, demanded money.
After informing him she had no money with her as he rifled through her pockets, she was able to get back on her feet and scream. The two men then ran away; no injuries were reported, police said.
The first suspect wore a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt and gloves. He appeared to be in his 20s, and was about 6 feet tall.
The second suspect was only described as smaller.
