Coram father, son plead not guilty to running drug house

A father and son from Coram pleaded not guilty Thursday to an indictment charging them with running a drug operation out of their house.

Joseph Fearon, 40, and Jasheme Fearon, 23, were arrested last month after a search warrant turned up cocaine, the narcotics fentanyl and oxycodone, and almost $200,000 in cash and paraphernalia associated with selling drugs, said Assistant District Attorney Saam Jalayer.

Most of the drug charges are associated with the father, said the son’s attorney, Robert Caccese of Riverhead, as he argued for lower bail. “In this state, your honor, we do not punish someone for the sins of the father,” Caccese said.

State Supreme Court Justice William Condon still quadrupled the bail set after Jasheme Fearon’s arrest to $100,000 cash or $200,000 bond.

Condon doubled the father’s bail to $1 million cash or $2 million bond.

Joseph Fearon’s lawyer, Ira Weissman of Central Islip, said he needs to investigate to see if there was a proper legal basis for the search warrant leading to the arrests.

“The game is just beginning,” he said.
