A Suffolk police chase that began in Brentwood ended in a crash in Dix Hills and the arrest of a Coram man on multiple charges, police said Friday. A suspect and a police officer sustained minor injures, police said.

Luigi Fusco, 29, of 9 Cornwallis Court, Coram, was charged with reckless endangerment, unlawfully fleeing a police officer, criminal mischief, aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle, DWI, driving while ability-impaired and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Fusco was driving a 2001 Honda without headlights near the intersection of Calebs Path and Motor Parkway in Brentwood, police said, and fled when a police officer attempted to pull him over about 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

A chase went westbound on the Long Island Expressway until Fusco lost control of the Honda while attempting to leave the LIE at Exit 51 and crashed, police said.

After the initial crash, Fusco attempted to continue on, but struck a police car that pulled along side his car, police said.

An officer in the police car was treated at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip for minor injuries, police said, and Fusco was treated at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore.

Fusco was arraigned in First District Court, West Islip, on Friday, and ordered held on $40,000 cash bail or $80,000 bond.
