K-9 units were dispatched to the scene of an accident on the Long Island Expressway Friday night in search of a driver who fled after he crashed a sports car, police said.

The unidentified man was driving a black 2008 Corvette eastbound when it crashed between exits 51 and 52 in Dix Hills about 11:10 p.m., Suffolk County police said.

The driver fled on foot and has not been located, police said. The car, impounded by police, had severe damage to the driver’s side. It was unclear if the vehicle had been reported stolen.

No further information on the crash was immediately available Saturday morning.
