Suffolk’s top prosecutors said a Wyandanch man was indicted Friday on charges related to a Melville crash in July when he allegedly slammed a car he was driving into a limousine carrying six people and seriously injured four of them.
Jaquan Carr, 28, was arraigned in Suffolk County Court in Riverhead on four counts of second-degree assault, four counts of leaving the scene of an accident, second-degree reckless endangerment and reckless driving, Suffolk District Attorney Timothy Sini said in a news release.
He was ordered held on $75,000 cash bail or $150,000 bond and is due back in court on Feb. 5. He faces a maximum sentence of seven years in prison on the assault charge, a D felony.
Carr’s attorney could not be reached for comment Friday.
“This is a classic case of ‘You can run, but you can’t hide,’ ” Sini said, crediting assistant district attorneys and Suffolk police Second Squad detectives for the indictment.
Sini said Carr was apprehended through DNA analysis of blood found on the airbag of the Mercedes-Benz that matched DNA identified as Carr’s in the FBI’s Combined DNA Index System. The car also contained paperwork with his name on it, Sini said.
Prosecutors said Carr was driving east on Wilmington Drive near Chiswell Drive in Melville in a 2012 Mercedes-Benz about 1:30 a.m. on July 1 when he crossed the center line and plowed into a 2014 Lincoln limousine carrying five people who were coming from a wedding — and then left the scene in another car.
Four of the victims suffered fractured legs and at least oneof them suffered a traumatic brain injury resulting in seizures.
