Credit cards stolen from cars in gym parking lots, Suffolk cops say

A Brooklyn man faces grand larceny charges after Suffolk County police said he used stolen credit cards to purchase gift cards and other items. 

Suffolk authorities arrested Stanley Roney, 37, on Friday. He has been charged with eight counts of fourth-degree grand larceny, 16 counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and 10 counts of second-degree identity theft.

The charges stem from an investigation conducted by detectives in Suffolk's Second, Fifth, and Sixth squads. Detectives said they have been investigating more than a dozen cases of stolen credit cards, most of which were taken from vehicles that were parked in gym parking lots. Police said in a news release that they suspect Roney used the cards to buy Apple watches and gift cards, among other items. 

Roney's scheduled arraignment Sunday in First District Court in Central Islip was adjourned until Thursday, according to court records. He remained in custody Sunday on bail of $3,000 bond or $1,000 cash, records show.
