ELMONT: 80 years to life for robbery

A Queens Village man was sentenced to 80 years to life after he was convicted of robbing an Elmont family at gunpoint and shooting at responding police officers.

The lengthy jail time that Isaac Holland, 26, will serve was a result of consecutive sentences for four counts of first-degree attempted murder, four counts of first-degree robbery, four counts of first-degree burglary, second-degree robbery, second-degree burglary, four counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

He was convicted by a Nassau County jury May 17 and sentenced by County Court Judge Philip Grella in Mineola Thursday.

Holland was part of a four-man crew who broke into the Elmont home on April 4, 2009, bound a man in his 20s and his parents with duct tape, then fled with cash and cell phones in a van, the Nassau County district attorney's office said in a news release.

Responding officers chased the van through bordering communities in Nassau and Queens counties, the DA said. Through the back window of the van, Holland fired on the officers with a .44 magnum, prosecutor Martin Meaney said. One of the bullets struck the cruiser's hood but the officers were not injured, Meaney said. The police fired back and the suspects were apprehended as they tried to flee the van on foot.

After Holland's conviction, the three other suspects all pleaded guilty to various charges.
