A Brentwood man has been accused of throwing a metal object from his box truck in the direction of highway workers who were helping set up a barricade to secure President Donald Trump’s visit to Long Island earlier this month, State Police said.

Justin A. Velez, 25, threw the object out the driver’s side window on Sunrise Highway near Exit 66 in Hampton Bays on Aug. 17, State Police said.

The object, which police did not further identify, caused damage to the driver’s side hood, mirror and door of a state Department of Transportation dump truck, police said.

State Police did not say what led them to arrest Velez, who was given a summons to appear in Southampton Town Court on Sept. 26 to face a charge of criminal mischief.

Trump was on Long Island Aug. 17 for a closed-door fundraiser in the Hamptons.
