A 19-year-old member of the MS-13 street gang has been charged with murder in the shooting death of an 18-year-old on a Uniondale street earlier this month, officials said.

Nerlin Omar Chacon-Ruano of Hempstead was arraigned on the second-degree murder charge in First District Court in Hempstead Tuesday and ordered held without bail, the Nassau County district attorney’s office said.

The court complaint said Chacon-Ruano fired multiple shots from a .9-millimeter handgun that fatally wounded Ayamiguel Ayala-Hernandez on Sept. 15.

Nassau County police said at the time that they got a report at 11:59 p.m. of shots fired on Walnut Street in Uniondale.

Responding officers found the victim on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds, and he was pronounced dead about 30 minutes later at Nassau University Medical Center, police said.

Correction: A prior version of this story gave another name for the victim.
