'Dating Game Killer' extradited to NY

Rodney Alcala, the convicted murderer known as the "Dating Game Killer," was extradited to New York from California Wednesday to face homicide charges in the long-unsolved killings of two women in the 1970s.
Alcala was returned to New York in the custody of U.S. Marshals. He is expected to appear in Manhattan Supreme Court Thursday.
Alcala, 68, was indicted last year for the murders of Cornelia Crilley, 23, a TWA flight attendant found raped and strangled in her Upper East Side apartment in 1971, and Ellen Hover, 23, whose body was found in Westchester County after she disappeared from her Manhattan apartment in 1977.
Alcala, a sometimes photographer who used the alias John Berger, was on death row in California for five murders when cold case detectives and investigators from District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr.'s office charged him last year. He had been imprisoned since 1980.
He got his nickname for an appearance as a bachelor contestant on "The Dating Game" in 1978.
