Suffolk County Police have closed off parts of a road in Deer Park after they say a man, possibly armed with a handgun, kicked in a door of a house on Sammis Avenue.

Police said at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, a man broke into a home where his ex-girlfriend used to live. Three women inside the home at the time of the break-in were able to get out of the house. Police said one of the women was the man's ex-girlfriend.

It was not clear Wednesday evening how long after the break-in the women escaped.

Police blocked off the road between Commack Road and Washington Avenue where the house is located.

Police also advised residents on the block not to leave their houses and officers were not permitting residents on the block to enter their homes.

As of 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers remained on the scene trying to determine whether the man was still in the house, police said.
