Gilberto Valle, a six-year veteran of the New York City Police Department, was arrested on charges that he kept files on women on his computer, discussed with a co-conspirator abducting a woman for $5,000 and mused about putting other women in his oven and cooking them. (2012) Credit: Handout

Alleged "cannibal cop" Gilberto Valle began having erotic fantasies about abduction and bondage as a teenager after seeing a scene with actress Cameron Diaz in "The Mask," according to a newly released summary of defense psychiatric testimony.

Valle, the summary says, told defense expert Dr. Park Dietz that he had sadistic fantasies about teachers and "cute" women he met, but was a shy suitor in real life because he assumed respectable women wouldn't be interested in bondage and worried that he "might ruin friendships" if he made the first move to even kiss or hold hands.

NYPD Officer Valle, 28, is accused of plotting with others he met in sexually deviant chat rooms on the Internet to kidnap and eat women. The defense argues that he was engaging in fantasy role-playing, and is calling Dietz to testify that Valle suffers from paraphilia -- a disorder in which people derive sexual excitement from imagined suffering.

Dietz, according to the summary, will testify that Valle doesn't suffer from "any personality disorder associated with violence."

The summary, provided to prosecutors, was unsealed this week by Manhattan U.S. District Judge Paul Gardephe after a request by the news media. Prosecutors oppose allowing Dietz to testify.

With jury selection scheduled to begin Feb. 11, Gardephe also unsealed pornographic pictures of naked women bound and posed on a spit and cooking platter, which were downloaded from Valle's computer. The defense wants the pictures shown to prospective jurors to weed out those who are too offended by his fantasies to serve.

Gardephe did keep sealed the results of a psychological test that Dietz administered to Valle on medical privacy grounds. Defense lawyers argued that Valle has already suffered "a level of embarrassment and mortification that is impossible to articulate."
