Nassau County police on Friday arrested a Massapequa man in a burglary case from 2009, and the state's DNA database helped solve the crime.

The burglary occurred on Sept. 18, 2009 at 5:10 a.m. at 2975 Merrick Rd. in Wantagh. The front door of a business was smashed in and a cash register with a cash box was removed, and another register was opened, police said.

An undetermined amount of money was taken. Police found a white glove at the scene and submitted DNA from it for comparison to DNA profiles in the state DNA database. Police said they were notified of a match on Friday and they arrested Richard F. Mayer, 51, of 530 Clocks Blvd., of Massapequa.

Police charged him with third-degree burglary and he is awaiting arraignment in First District Court in Hempstead.
