A Baldwin woman accused of helping a suspect who was wanted in the slaying of a North Carolina police officer has been arrested in Nassau County, according to court documents.
Casey Fenner, 35, of Elm Place, was arrested on a North Carolina warrant charging her with being an accessory after the fact, according to a felony complaint.
Fenner is the sister of the suspected shooter and it is believed “that the brother stayed at her house” while on the run, a source said.
North Carolina put out the warrant for her arrest, and the FBI contacted Nassau police, who made the arrest, the source said.
Fenner was ordered held without bail at her arraignment Wednesday morning in First District Court in Hempstead. Fenner, who was represented by a Legal Aid Society attorney, is scheduled to return to court Thursday.
According to the complaint, Fenner was arrested at Glen Cove Hospital in Glen Cove about 2 p.m. on Tuesday. The complaint did not specify the allegations against her.
Fenner is an employee at Glen Cove Hospital, said Michelle Pinto, a spokeswoman for Northwell Health.
Pinto declined to comment further, citing the police investigation. She said the hospital is “cooperating with the authorities to the fullest extent.”
Fenner’s arrest is in connection with the shooting death of Tim Brackeen, a Shelby, North Carolina, police officer. Brackeen was shot while attempting to serve a warrant early Saturday and died at a hospital Monday, according to a Shelby Police news release.
Brackeen, 38, was a police officer in Shelby since July 2004 and was most recently worked in the K-9 unit, the release said. He was married and had a daughter.
The suspected gunman, Irving Lucien Fenner Jr., 23, was arrested early Wednesday in Coventry, Rhode Island, according to news reports.
Det. Lt. Richard LeBrun, a Nassau County police spokesman, referred inquiries to the FBI. A message seeking comment at the FBI field office in Manhattan was not answered.
