Driver charged with assaulting 2 officers during stop, cops say
A Uniondale man was charged with assault after he was pulled over for traffic violations and got into a confrontation with two officers, Nassau County police said Sunday.
Police said that at 6:55 p.m. Saturday, officers tried to pull over a black 2013 Honda traveling south on Chester Street in Uniondale for multiple vehicle traffic law infractions, police said.
The driver, identified as Andre Madden, 27, of Arcadia Lane, refused to pull over and “proceeded to drive aggressively” before finally stopping.
Police added that Madden “became uncooperative, confrontational and physical, striking both officers with elbows to their heads multiple times.”
Madden was eventually subdued and arrested, police said.
One officer suffered a cheek cut and facial swelling and was taken to a hospital, while the other officer, who suffered facial cuts, was treated at the scene, police said.
Madden was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
He faces charges of second-degree assault, third-degree attempted assault, obstructing governmental administration, second-degree harassment, resisting arrest and multiple vehicle traffic law violations.
His next court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
