Suffolk police are searching for a driver who hit and killed a pedestrian in Bay Shore then fled the scene Friday evening.

Emmanuel DeJesus Cruz Zavala was struck and killed by a car while crossing in front of 1090 Candlewood Rd. at 5:08 p.m., police said.

Zavala, 33, of Bay Shore, was pronounced dead at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore.

Witnesses described the vehicle as a dark-colored sedan, police said. Detectives said they believe the car has damage to its front passenger side fender.

Police said the driver fled southeast on Candlewood Road toward Commack Road.

Vehicular Crime Unit detectives are investigating.
