A Sag Harbor man is accused of driving while intoxicated Thursday and injuring a police officer in Noyack, Southampton Town police said.

David Knibb, 51, was seen parked in his vehicle on Long Beach Road near Noyack Road “slumped over the driver’s side open window asleep” at 9 p.m., police said in a news release.

Police said Knibb was operating the vehicle in an "intoxicated condition."

When Knibb refused to get out of the vehicle or cooperate with officers, he had to be removed from the vehicle, police said. Knibb then grabbed an officer and twisted their finger, causing a sprain and a fractured wrist, police said.

Knibb faces a charge of second-degree assault with intent to cause injury to an officer, driving while intoxicated, and resisting arrest, police said.

It was not immediately known if Knibb has an attorney.
