A Massapequa woman who struck two elderly pedestrians crossing an East Massapequa street Friday night has been charged with driving while intoxicated, Nassau County police said.

Police said Joanne Dooher, 50, was driving her 2019 Hyundai at the corner of Merrick Road and East Shore Road while a 93-year-old man and an 86-year-old woman were trying to cross Merrick Road.

Both pedestrians were taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. The woman suffered a broken pelvis, police said.

Dooher stayed at the scene and was arrested on two counts of first-degree aggravated driving while intoxicated, two counts of vehicular assault and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

She was released after arraignment Saturday in First District Court in Mineola, according to online court records. Dooher is represented by the Legal Aid Society of Nassau County, which typically does not comment. Her next court appearance is set for Sept. 21.
