Drunken driver caused chain crash that pinned man, 89, cops say

A drunken driver turned in front of oncoming traffic Monday and caused a chain collision that pinned an 89-year-old man against the Huntington McDonald’s he had just left, Suffolk police said.

Daryl Richardson, a 56-year-old woman from Huntington Station, tried to turn left into McDonald’s from the westbound lanes of West Jericho Turnpike but crashed into an eastbound Chevrolet just after 4 p.m., police said.

The Chevrolet veered off the roadway and into the fast-food restaurant, striking Louis Anania of Dix Hills, police said.

Anania was pinned between the vehicle and the building, police said, and his leg was fractured and his clavicle broken. He was taken to Huntington Hospital, police said.

The Chevrolet driver, Brian Davila of Huntington Station, was treated for minor injuries at the hospital and released, police said.

Richardson, of West Route 25, also was treated there for nonlife-threatening injuries, then was charged with driving while intoxicated, police said.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.

Second Precinct detectives said witnesses could call them at 631-854-8252.
