Drunken driver hits bicyclist in Farmingville, Suffolk cops say

A Farmingville man was charged with drunken driving after he struck and critically injured a bicyclist Saturday morning in Farmingville, Suffolk County police said.
Lee Newman, 26, was driving a white 2009 Ford pickup truck south on County Road 83/North Ocean Avenue when he struck the cyclist traveling west on Horseblock Road at 5:15 a.m., police said.
The bicyclist, Armando Gonzalez, 67, of Medford, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he remains in critical condition, police said.
Newman’s vehicle was impounded for a safety check, and he was scheduled to be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip.
The intersection, initially closed to traffic, has since been reopened.
