Dunkin’ Donuts robbery in Nassau latest in spree, cops say

The knife-wielding man responsible for nearly 10 robberies since March 1 has struck again, this time on Sunday night at a Massapequa Park Dunkin’ Donuts, Nassau County police said.

Detectives said a man armed with a large kitchen knife and with a black scarf covering his face entered the doughnut shop at 4886 Sunrise Hwy. shortly after 9 p.m.

He went behind the counter and demanded the cashier open the register. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash, the man left and was last seen heading south on Brooklyn Avenue, police said.

A news release said the robbery is being investigated as part of a pattern. Nassau police have reported at least nine such robberies by a man armed with a large knife since March 1 when a Dunkin’ Donuts in New Hyde Park was hit.

Robbery Squad detectives said the suspect is about 6 feet tall and wears a scarf, hoodie or both to cover his face.

On Sunday, the clerk at the Dunkin’ Donuts, who was not injured, said the suspect was about 35 years old and matched the previous descriptions in height and build, according to police. The robber was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, bluejeans, black gloves and a black scarf covering his face.

A police spokeswoman early Monday said detectives also are trying to determine if the robbery of a Williston Park Dunkin’ Donuts on Friday also is part of the pattern.

In that robbery, at about 10:30 p.m. at the Dunkin’ Donuts at 276 Hillside Ave., police said the man had a knife and also wore light-colored gloves and what appeared to be a light-colored surgical mask to cover his face.

Police released a sketch of the suspect on March 20.
