A Southold woman was charged with drunken driving after her speeding car hit two telephone poles on Route 25 in Southold, overturned and came to a stop on its roof, police said.

Yanet Garcia, 21, was driving west on Route 25 “at a high rate of speed” about 2:25 a.m. Sunday when her vehicle left the pavement and hit the poles near Road D, Southold Town police said.

She was taken to a hospital for treatment, police said.

“An investigation at the scene and at the hospital determined Garcia was intoxicated at the time of the accident and she was arrested,” police said in a statement.

She was discharged from the hospital and was being held for arraignment on a charge of driving while intoxicated, police said.
