A 27-year-old <a href="/topics/Jamesport%2C_NY">Jamesport</a> man was charged with driving while intoxicated Friday after his car careened off Depot Lane in Cutchogue and crashed into a cemetery wall, <a href="/topics/Southold%2C_NY">Southold</a> police said. 
The crash occurred about 5:50 p.m. as Hilario Ramirez-Perez drove south in a sedan, which careened across several residential lawns, crossed two lanes of Depot Lane and narrowly missed slamming head-on into a police cruiser, police said. 
Perez's car stopped after crashing into a masonry wall of Sacred Heart Cemetery. The Cutchogue Fire Department responded and transported Ramirez-Perez to Eastern <a href="/topics/Long_Island%2C_NY">Long Island</a> Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. 
A police investigation found that Ramirez-Perez was driving under the influence of alcohol. He was held overnight for arraignment.

And the reporters showed how districts have paid nearly $30 million to settle dozens of lawsuits by former students who say teachers, administrators and fellow students sexually abused them.
