A Huntington Station man has been charged with operating an e-bike while intoxicated after he went through a red light and crashed into another car, seriously injuring himself and an 81-year-old woman, Suffolk police said.

Around 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Frerlin Sarceno Gudiel, 24, was operating an e-bike north on Depot Road in Huntington Station when he went through a red light at the intersection of Pulaski Road and crashed broadside into a westbound 2019 Subaru SUV, police said.

The driver of the Subaru, an 81-year-old woman who was not identified, was taken to Huntington Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, police said.

Sarceno Gudiel was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of serious injuries, police said.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.

Sarceno Gudiel was charged with driving while intoxicated with a previous DWI conviction within 10 years, a felony; and operating a bicycle with electronic assist while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, police said.

Sarceno Gudiel will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.

Police said anyone with information on the crash is asked to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
