An East End carpenter has been arrested on sexual abuse charges involving a 13-year-old, East Hampton Town police said on Thursday.

Police said Carlos Fidel Gutama, 52, of East Hampton, was scheduled for arraignment on Thursday in East Hampton Town Justice Court, charged with two counts of second-degree sexual abuse and one count of endangering the welfare of a child. The charges are misdemeanors.

Police said the child disclosed the alleged abuse to a Child Protective Services employee. In a statement on Thursday detailing the arrest, police said following an interview with a detective it was "determined that the abuse occurred on multiple occasions in November, 2022" when the child was 13 years old.

The identity of the alleged victim was not released. It was not clear if the teen was male or female — or how the victim knew Gutama. It also was unclear where the alleged incidents are believed to have taken place.

Police said Gutama worked as a carpenter for a business in Sag Harbor.

It was not immediately clear if Gutama was represented by counsel.

Police said on Thursday the investigation is ongoing and asked anyone who believes they may have been a victim of Gutama's to contact them at 631-537-7575.
