A May 9 arraignment date has been set for a manager at the Maidstone in East Hampton Village to answer to charges that an illegal burlesque show was featured at the hotel on the night of April 2.

Jakob Berlin, 36, of East Hampton, is charged with a live performance without a permit, violation of the certificate of occupancy, and failing to comply with a notice given by village code enforcement officials.

Berlin is scheduled to appear in East Hampton Town Justice Court before Judge Lisa Rana.

Featured in the show was Tara “Taradise” Bizub of New Jersey, who according to her resume on the Ambience Artistry website has been dancing for more than 20 years and appeared in such films as “The Wolf of Wall Street.” The website also says she trained as a dancer and worked with the American Ballet Theatre and Joffrey Ballet.

Reached by phone Wednesday, Berlin said he had “no comment” on the charges. Bizub could not be reached.

According to a police report, the incident was listed as “no permit — carnival, circus etc.” and police were sent to the hotel to investigate “a possible village code violation.” The managers were told to stop the performance and the summonses were issued.

In a telephone interview Wednesday, East Hampton Village Police Chief Gerard Larsen Jr. said local officials first found out about the show through an ad in local newspapers that publicized a March 5 burlesque show.

“Code enforcement then called them [hotel managers] on March 3” to warn them that the show couldn’t take place, Larsen said. He said there are no live performances of any type allowed in the village without a permit.

“Later we heard that it did take place and now they were advertising it for the first Saturday of every month,” Larsen said. So on the next first Saturday of the month — April 2 — the police showed up.

In addition to allegedly featuring a live show without a permit and allegedly not complying after they were warned not to have the show, Larsen said there was a certificate of occupancy violation because the venue is supposed to be a restaurant.

“The CO is for a restaurant, not a nightclub,” Larsen said.

The Maidstone, at 207 Main St., is a Scandinavian-inspired boutique hotel, housed in a 19th-century building, and the show was featured in an area called the Living Room.

In an online All Events in East Hampton ad for the 11:30 p.m. April 2 show that included a photo of Bizub, it said of the event, “It will be balloons, glitter, gold and so much fun!”
