East Islip man sold heroin, injected teen, police say

An East Islip man sold heroin out of his home and injected customers — including a 15-year-old girl — “to get them hooked,” Suffolk County Police Commissioner Timothy Sini said Thursday.
Daniel Orlando, 18, was arrested by detectives at the Shinnecock Lane home following a raid carried out with the support of the new Suffolk-Nassau joint heroin task force.
“This individual . . . not only sold drugs, but he wanted to make sure his customers were hooked on his drugs,” Sini said. “He wanted to make sure his customers knew how to inject heroin effectively.”
Sini said Orlando showed “no regard for the damage that he caused.”
About 30 packets of heroin were seized, along with an undisclosed amount of Xanax and drug paraphernalia including scales, police said.
Orlando was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree criminal use of drug paraphernalia, criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument, criminal sale of a controlled substance in or near school grounds, and four counts of criminal injection of a narcotic drug.
Orlando’s spacious, two-story home — owned by his mother and currently on the market for $825,000 — is located about 600 feet from an elementary school, police said.
“When a 15-year-old is injected with heroin by an adult, it’s against their will by nature,” Sini said. “It’s a barbaric act, and it’s clearly a business model.”
Orlando is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in First District Court in Central Islip. His family couldn’t be immediately reached.
Sini said police are “aware of at least two” people that Orlando injected with heroin. The second victim is not a minor, he said.
A police spokesman said authorities “received information” that Orlando had injected some of his customers but declined to elaborate.

At the time of the raid, a child who is related to Orlando was in the home, police said. Authorities also found hypodermic needles in the street outside.
“We will not tolerate drug dealers selling poison in our communities,” Sini said.
