A man robbed a Chase Bank in East Northport’s Huntington Square Mall on Thursday afternoon in a crime being investigated by Suffolk’s Police Pattern Crime Unit, officials said.

The suspect, who wore a black mask, a gray, hooded jacket and jeans, went behind the tellers’ counter to remove cash from the drawer after announcing the robbery.

The robber, who has a medium build and stands about 5 feet, 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, fled on foot, the police said.

But his crime led to a three-car crash. A police officer who was responding to the robbery, which occurred around 2:37 p.m., collided with a car at the intersection of Harned Road and Veterans Highway in Commack at about 2:45 p.m., police said.

The second car, driven by a woman, then hit a third car.

One accident victim was taken to a hospital; her injuries were not life-threatening, the police said.

Anyone with information about the crime, which can be provided anonymously, is asked to call 800-220-TIPS, text “SCPD” and a message to CRIMES (274637), or visit tipsubmit.com.
