Employee at LI center abused person in her care, authorities say
A Queens woman has been charged with abusing a person with disabilities in her care at a Long Island center, authorities said.
The Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs said Edith Carby, 60, of St. Albans was arrested and charged with two misdemeanors and a violation after she “allegedly yanked on the victim’s ear and struck the victim in the head with her hand” while escorting the unidentified victim to a clinic earlier this year. Carby was charged with one count of second-degree endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person, one count of third-degree attempted assault and one count of second-degree harassment.
She also was terminated from her job at Extraordinary People in Care Long Island, authorities said.
Carby was released on her own recognizance after a court appearance, records indicate.
She is next scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 15.
