Nassau police at the scene of a crash where a 77-year-old bicyclist was killed by a hit-and-run driver Tuesday night in Elmont. Credit: Jim Staubitser

A 77-year-old bicyclist was killed after he was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Elmont on Tuesday night, Nassau police said.

Around 9:27 p.m., the man, who was not identified, was riding his bicycle north on Meacham Avenue near McClure Avenue when a northbound light-colored SUV struck him.

The vehicle drove away north on Meacham Avenue, police said.

The man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead; the investigation is ongoing, police said.
