Fernando Martinez, of Copiague, charged in hit-and-run that kills man lying in road

A driver was arrested on Friday in the fatal hit-and-run of a man who had been lying a Copiague roadway on Thursday evening, police said.
Fernando Martinez, 19, of Copiague, was driving a 2011 Honda Pilot north on Vespucci Avenue around 10:45 p.m. Thursday when he ran over a man lying in the road between Dante and Dixon avenues, Suffolk County police said in a news release.
Martinez did not stop and eventually turned left on Dixon Avenue, police said.
The victim, who has not yet been identified by police, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police found the Honda Pilot in Copiague and impounded it as evidence.
Martinez was charged on Friday with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash involving a fatality. He will be arraigned on Saturday at First District Court in Central Islip.
