Arrest made in fatal hit-and-run in Copiague, police say
Suffolk police arrested a Copiague man Friday who allegedly drove away after he fatally struck a pedestrian earlier this week.
Lloyd Berger, 64, was behind the wheel of a grey sedan that struck and killed Louis Lasusa, 69, of Copiague, Suffolk police said in a news release.
About 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, Lasusa was walking across Montauk Highway in Copiague when a westbound sedan struck him and kept driving, Newsday previously reported.
A physician assistant from the office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner pronounced Lasusa dead at the scene, police said.
Suffolk police arrested and charged Berger with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash involving a fatality, the department said. Berger is being held overnight at the Third Precinct in Bay Shore and is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday.
