Suffolk County police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man at a home in Huntington Station late Wednesday night.

Police said Louis Lombardo, 28, of Dix Hills was standing with a group of people in an open garage at a home east of Melville Road and Ark Place, just before midnight, when they saw another group of people walk up the driveway.

As they tried to close the garage door, police said one person in the other group pulled a gun and fired through the garage door, striking Lombardo just before midnight.

Lombardo was taken by ambulance to Huntington Hospital where he was pronounced dead early Wednesday.
