Cops: Man strangles father in their West Babylon home
A man strangled his father to death on Friday afternoon in their West Babylon home, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.
Robert Taylor, 64, was killed by his son James Taylor, 34, at the home on Phillips Walk, the department said in a news release.
The release said: "A woman called 911 at approximately 12:55 p.m. and stated her son strangled her husband."
The younger man was arrested and detained. He was charged with second-degree murder.
Dan Russo of Westhampton Beach, Taylor's court-appointed attorney, said his client pleaded not guilty Saturday at arraignment before Judge Patricia Grant Flynn at First District Court in Central Islip. The judge did not set bail and Taylor was jailed.
"We pled not guilty, and at this point he denies the allegations, but it certainly seems like, from what I heard in court yesterday, that there's some significant evidence," Russo said Sunday by phone.
Russo said he was planning to see Taylor on Monday.
The release did not say what, if anything, allegedly precipitated the strangulation.
