East Islip resident Quon Williams had enough fentanyl 'to kill approximately 113,410 people,' Suffolk DA Ray Tierney says

An Islip Terrace man faces drug charges after Suffolk County police seized more than 8 ounces of fentanyl and cocaine at the home the defendant shared with his girlfriend and three children, prosecutors said in a news release.

Quon Williams, 39,  was charged with first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and several related charges. Williams and his girlfriend, Keirsten Escobar, 31, were also charged with three counts of endangering the welfare of a child for exposing the kids to the drugs.

Police found enough fentanyl in the home to kill approximately 113,410 people, Suffolk District Attorney Ray Tierney said in the statement.

Acting County Judge James McDonaugh ordered Williams held in lieu of $1 million cash bail, $2 million bond or $10 million partially secured bond during an arraignment on Monday in Central Islip. Williams is scheduled to return to court on July 15. He faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted on the top count.

Escobar is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday before Supreme Court Justice Timothy Mazzei in Riverhead.

"These allegations highlight a deeply troubling situation where substantial quantities of deadly narcotics were allegedly found in a home where three young children lived," Tierney said. "We will continue working with law enforcement to investigate these allegations thoroughly while ensuring the safety and welfare of the children involved."

Williams’ attorney, Chris Cassar, said the defendant denies committing the offenses he has been charged with. 

"This is a case where the prosecution is attempting to poison the jury pool with speculation of possible numbers of deaths," Cassar said. "Mr. Williams intends to fight these charges and ultimately will be found not guilty." 

Del Atwell, Escobar’s lawyer, also did not respond to a request for comment.

Suffolk police who executed a search warrant heard glass breaking at the rear of the home as they approached the Islip Terrace residence on May 28, prosecutors said. Once inside the home, they found Williams in the bedroom of his 1-year-old child. Williams’ hand was bleeding, and the bedroom window appeared to have just been shattered.

Officials discovered a kilo press, which is used to mold powdered narcotics into a brick to facilitate distribution, under the broken window. Prosecutors said more than 8 ounces of fentanyl was found in the press.

Police found a kilogram of cocaine inside Williams’ bedroom and his fingerprints were recovered from a bag that held the cocaine, according to the district attorney’s office.

Officers also recovered $14,000 in cash and drug paraphernalia, including hypodermic needles and scales. The other children who lived in the home were 5 and 10 years old at the time the warrant was executed.
