Firefighters direct water at burning buses in Cedar Creek Park in Seaford on Aug. 13.

Nassau County police on Thursday arrested a 17-year-old boy in connection with a fire on Aug. 13 at a NICE bus lot at Cedar Creek Park in Seaford.

According to Arson Bomb Squad detectives, a fire was set inside one of the buses at 3340 Merrick Rd. and spread to 10 other Nassau Inter-County Express buses, causing excessive property damage. The teen is charged with one count of third-degree arson and 10 counts of fourth-degree arson in the fourth degree.

On Aug. 13 Wantagh firefighters were dispatched to the lot just after 6 p.m. where they discovered the buses engulfed in flames, Nassau County Assistant Fire Marshal James Hickman told Newsday at the time.

The buses, which were out of service, were in a back lot and parked close together, he said. Nassau County police said the fire was isolated to the bus lot. Three fire departments responded with crews battling the blaze for about an hour. No injuries were reported.

The unnamed defendant was to be arraigned later Thursday in First District Court, 99 Main St., in Hempstead.
